Data & Software Engineer
NOAA Fisheries - T&T Consulting

I am a Data & Software Engineer with over 10 years of experience turning raw, messy information into actionable insights. My passion lies in architecting end-to-end systems that bridge the gap between physical hardware signals and high-level business intelligence.

Where I'm Working Now

Currently, I build full-stack solutions for scientific data collection at NOAA Fisheries (via T&T Consulting). My day-to-day involves building data pipelines to move data from commercial fishing vessels out at sea into the cloud using both AWS and GCP platforms and databases like MongoDB and PostgreSQL. I also work extensively on Python and React apps used by scientists to collect data in the harsh mostly offline maritime environment miles offshore. I'm particularly excited about automating signficant portions of the data collection process through computer vision and electronic monitoring, and have recently gotten involved with helping develop these AI-capable systems for our research surveys.

What Drives Me

With roots in Earth Sciences and GIS, I thrive on the technical challenges unique to the marine and climate tech space. Regardless of the context, I'm passionate about the end-to-end process of data collection, processing, and analysis that derives valuable insights from data collected by users and devices on the edge. Whether I am spearheading AI/ML image collection projects in the field or redesigning large-scale PostGIS databases for spatial analytics, my focus is always on delivering reliable, scalable data products.

What I’m Currently Exploring

  • Agents & Data: Learning how best to use agentic workflows with data and databases.
  • Modern Data Stacks: DuckDB, dbt, and edge-to-cloud architectures.
  • PostgreSQL: All things pg, especially pg_vector, pglite, and spatial analytics.
  • Web Frameworks: Trying to become a better full-stack developer.
  • RAG + APIs: API-aware chatbots and their data...chat with Winston bottom right :).
  • Project Management: Looking towards the next steps of my career in data & tech.
